Twos aren’t always terrible. Actually, two is a super fun age when it comes to toys and playtime. This is the age where pretend play and true toddler-hood start to make an appearance. I love to research and shop for toys, so here’s the gift guide for two year old boys!
I try to buy toys that are quality over quantity for multiple reasons. I want toys to last, but I also think too many toys can be overwhelming for a kid (and also clutter up your home). That’s why I really try to do my research and get classic loved toys.
If you’re shopping for a two year old’s birthday or any other holiday, hopefully this list comes in handy. My son is currently 28 months old and these are all his absolute favorite toys. We own everything on this list and he plays with them constantly.
If you aren’t a regular blog reader, Leo is my first baby who turned two in February. We celebrated his birthday with some family and of course, dinosaurs. I’m a bit late writing this post but now I have a better idea what toys he’s liked for the last four months. Hopefully your little man will like everything as well!
Gift ideas:
Duplo blocks — My son didn’t really start playing with these til recently, but they’ve quickly became his favorite inside toy. He will build towers all day long and has just as much fun knocking them over or karate chopping his creations.
Animal figures — Fun for pretend play and learning about animals. My favorite brand is Schleich because they’re durable and super realistic. Plus Schleich has every animal you could ever imagine. Your kids favorite animal is an ant eater/giant tortoise/wombat? They’ve got it!
School bus — It’s so cute to watch a toddler develop their ability to play pretend with little figures. This school bus is perfect for little hands doing just that.
Playdoh set — Who doesn’t love Playdoh? At this age, they don’t need the hair dresser or dentist sets. Just some basic doh and cutting tools is more than enough.
Hot Wheels — Little boys and cars go hand in hand. I’ve noticed that a lot of hot wheel sets are too big or advanced for two year olds, but the set I’ve linked is perfect. Your kids can display cars in this ‘stunt garage’ or watch them go down the spiral. Of course, you’ll need a few cars if you don’t already have them.
Scooter — So much fun and teaches a whole new form of gross motor skills. If you take this thing outside, you’re gonna want a helmet and kneepads, too!
Sandbox — Definitely one of my top three suggestions. What kid doesn’t remember growing up practically living in the sandbox?
Trampoline — This may be a bit ridiculous, but it has been so fun seeing our son jump around on this. It definitely helps burn off some of his endless energy. I love that he can get on an off by himself and has a safety net.
Magnetic tiles — Such a cool gift that even I have fun with. You can play with them on their own or you can build homes and garages for other little toys. My son’s favorite thing to do is trap dinosaurs and then break them free.
Play food — This is a staple gift for any toddler. I prefer wooden play food, especially the kind you can ‘cut’ with a knife. Melissa and Doug are the best for play food. I love all their kitchen items.
Play kitchen — And if you don’t have a kitchen for all the play food, you should. I absolutely love this one because its big and has counter space (silly I know, but no other kitchens do???). The price on this one is always changing so keep an eye out if you like it. Normally its about $200 but I got ours for $80 during Black Friday.
Water table — Seriously, if your kid doesn’t already have a water table, this is your sign to buy one. My son will stand outside for hours pouring water into the top level on this one. You can also use a water table as a sensory bin with water beads, shaving cream, bubbles, or even mud.
Craft supplies — There’s a million options out there for different types of crafts or coloring. Even just crayons and coloring books are perfect.
