Wow, it’s been a while. This is my first post since having our baby boy, Leo, back at the beginning of February (I know, what a lackluster way to announce our baby lol. But I plan to write his birth story soon!) But now that we’re on to spring weather and the Easter holiday, I wanted to get this post out there before it’s too late. He may be way too young to understand the holiday, but I wasn’t going to skip making our first baby’s Easter basket!
Baby Leo will be 10 weeks old on Easter, so really, this basket is more for me than it is him. He won’t remember his first Easter, but that’s okay! I’ve been looking forward to making his Easter basket since before he was even born.
And even though he won’t have any actual memories of the day, I love being able to establish traditions and excitement that surround holidays for my family. So why not start at the first chance I get!
The best part of making a baby’s Easter basket is that you can get things that are actually useful gifts — things that you’d buy anyway. Like in Leo’s basket, I have a pacifier, rattle socks, some board books, and some wipes. If I didn’t buy these for Easter, I would have in the next few months regardless.
I decided to go with a color scheme, too. By making everything baby blue, it all just looks more put together. This totally isn’t necessary and will become harder as he gets older, but I enjoyed making the effort.
So if you wanna make your baby an Easter basket also, its actually super easy and I’ve come up with a list of ideas below.
What to put in baby’s Easter basket:
Stuffed animal: You can’t have an Easter basket without some sort of bunny. A baby’s Easter basket isn’t going to be filled with lots of large items, so a stuffed bunny is a great way to take up some space. I got this bunny in Walmart’s Easter section for just $5 and it’s super soft!
Books: I think kids should get books any time you can justify it. If you want, you can get all Easter-themed books, but you’ll get more use out of them if you can read them year ’round.
Toys: Any age-appropriate toys or toys they’ll soon grow into are perfect for Easter baskets. Even if you have a newborn, you can look at toys like rattle socks or hanging toys for their stroller. Bath toys are also a great thing to consider!
Pacifiers: Babies are always losing pacifiers (or having them stolen by the dogs), so it doesn’t hurt to get a few extras.
Teething toys: The same goes for teething toys. If your baby likes chewing on his fist, one fun thing you can try out is a teething mitten. It’s a little glove for your baby that has a silicone end that’s perfect for chomping on.
Clothes: You’ll have to buy spring and summer clothes anyway, why not throw some in baby’s Easter Basket? You can also include their Easter day outfit, but I’d rather my baby wear his in the morning before opening baskets.
Swimsuit: It’s still too cold to go swimming for most of us, but making sure you have a swimsuit ready is a necessity for when it’s warm enough.
Blanket: Blankets are one of those things I love buying for my baby because you always need a soft, clean spot to lay them down. Swaddle blankets, receiving blankets, or burb cloths are all great items, too.
Bubbles: Chances are your baby is just a little too young to use bubbles themself, but they’ll love watching mom and dad blow bubbles.
Wipes/diapers/bottles/formula: Or any other essentials you already use and love. You can’t tell in my pictures, but there are two packets of wipes underneath everything to give it some height. Your baby won’t know the difference.
Food/snacks: If your baby is a little older, you know they’ll love getting a basket full of puffs, yogurt and fruit pouches to snack on.
Plates/bowls/utensils: Once you hit the 6+ month mark, your baby will be eager to try using their very own eating utensils and plates.
Something for mom and dad: When I asked my husband, “What would you put in a baby’s Easter basket?” He said, “Nothing because they won’t remember it… But you can put some candy in it for daddy.” So, if you take Alex’s advice: Reese’s Eggs lol.
