Not only is Christmas right around the corner, so is my son’s third birthday. Three years old is going to be such a fun time filled with lots of “big kid” toys like Hot Wheels and action figures. I feel like I’ve recently watched my toddler transform into a preschooler right before my eyes and his choice in toys has evolved too.
I spend an unreasonable amount of time researching toys, deals, and appropriate ideas for each age. I feel like I’m somewhat of a professional toy shopper now – at least up to the age of three. And one thing I always make sure of is that the toys I buy and suggest aren’t gonna be junk. I can’t stand cheap toys that just turn into clutter and I’m not gonna wish that on anyone reading this either.
If you want some more ideas of toys we’ve bought Leo in the past, check out my gift suggestions for two year old boys and one year olds. Almost all of those toys still get a lot of play time!
Two-seater electric car: I actually can’t think of anything cooler for a little boy than his own personal Jeep lookalike. This thing is just badass, no other way to describe it. Two kids can fit in it, there’s two speed options, and you can even control it with a remote!! I can’t wait to sit on the back patio with a drink in hand and drive the kids around.
Books: A necessity for kids of all ages. Some of our favorites right now are The Runaway No-wheeler, The Day the Crayons Quit and The Bad Seed.
Pretend Play sink: Leo has taken a real interest in the bathroom sink recently. He always wants to wash his hands or play in the water. For the sake of our water bill (and bathroom floors), I think getting him his own working sink is the best plan.
Alphabet puzzle: We’re at the age where we’re starting to learn letters and numbers. Puzzles are just another way to increase familiarization and make games out of learning.
Fire station play set: This looks like the boy’s version of a Barbie dream house. I love the little accessories and vehicles that comes with it.
Action figures: You know you’re officially into boyhood when action figures get added to your list. These 12 inch Marvel characters are lots of fun and great quality.
Playhouse: All kids need a playhouse of some sort. This one is soo cute, it looks like a little coastal cottage. Of course you can put it outside, but we’ll put ours in the basement playroom – no wasps that way!
Play doh garbage truck: Leo asks us every day to get the Play doh out. I think he’ll like getting a play set so it’s a little more of an activity.
Remote control cars: This has like 20k reviews on Amazon with an almost 5-star rating. Some RC cars have difficult remotes, but this one seems pretty simple and a three year old could definitely get the hang of it.
PlasmaCar: This was a last minute addition to my list, but it looks like so much fun! Three years old is still a little young to be riding a bike, but I think Leo will be able to drive this around no problem. You wiggle the steering wheel to make it go – seems fun!
Hot Wheels track builder: I think this is the perfect starter kit for a little boy’s Hot Wheels set. It doesn’t have any additional track pieces, but it has the motorized “zoomy” part that makes the cars go fast through the loop. I see Leo spending hours with this.
