Gifts for New and Expecting Moms

Gift Guides· Motherhood· Pregnancy & Baby

The holiday season is coming up and everyone keeps asking me what I want for Christmas. Now that I’m pregnant and expecting our first child, my priorities have totally flipped. All I can think of is pregnancy or baby-related things! If you have a similar woman in your life and need some gift-giving inspiration, I’ve come up with a list of gift ideas for new and expecting moms.

In this season of their life, it’s easy for women to forget about themselves while they’re prioritizing bringing a human into the world. Between preparing for their new baby, constant doctor appointments, and changes in her body and energy, treating herself is probably the last thing she’ll take time to do.

Thankfully for her, you’re reading this, which means you’re probably a very thoughtful friend who is looking to treat this mom-to-be in your life. Whether you’re looking for something super practical like a fancy diaper bag or something more sentimental like a personalized necklace, I’ve got you — and her — covered.

Gift Ideas

Massage Gift Card – It doesn’t matter what mom you’re shopping for, she will 100% appreciate a 60-minute massage.

Pregnancy Pillow – As a mama’s belly grows, it gets harder and harder to get comfortable in bed. Lots of moms love a full body pillow, but smaller wedge pillows are more versatile and allow for her to roll back and forth while sleeping.

Robe and Swaddle Set – These are super popular for hospital photoshoots and make a less-than-luxurious situation feel a little more special. There are gorgeous floral patterned sets and more boy-friendly patterns like stripes and plain colors.

Mama T-shirt – She’s going to want the world to know she’s a new mom, why not put it on a cute shirt? This one, this one, and this one are some of the cutest I’ve found.

Baby Memory Book – Those sentimental moms will definitely cry some happy tears when they see an As You Grow baby book. This book is not only gorgeous, but it provides lots of sweet writing prompts for pregnancy, birth and baby’s early years.

Mama Necklace – There are lots of options out there for general mama necklaces, but there are also gorgeous personalized ones like this one or this one.

Diaper Bag – This is a must-have for any expecting mom and something she will use for the next 2-5 years. Because this can also be a very personal item, make sure you know exactly what she’d like. Some of my favorites are the Itzy Ritzy Boss Backpack and the B.F.F. from JuJuBe.

Maternity Leggings – Some of the most thoughtful gifts are practical things. Leggings that stretch over the belly are a must-have for pregnancy. These ones have great belly support and are super comfy.

Sentimental Picture Frame – If your mom-to-be is a little more on the sentimental side, a picture frame to display a sonogram photo or first footprint would be perfect.

Mama Coffee Mug – She doesn’t have to be a coffee drinker to appreciate a mug sporting her soon-to-be title (I use mugs for milk and cookies more than anything lol). There are countless options out there, but this one, this one, or this bottle are some of the cutest I’ve found.

Pregnancy Journal – Being pregnant comes with lots of exciting emotions and milestones you won’t want to forget. A journal with writing prompts is the perfect way to remember and look back at every milestone.

Nursing/Maternity Bra – It’s not just her belly that will be growing, but so will her boobs. A new, comfy bra is a perfect gift from those closest friends and family. Personally, my favorites are nursing bras meant to sleep in but are supportive enough for daily wear.

Heating Pad – Growing pains and an aching back are unfortunately in most mom-to-be’s future. I’ve found that a heating pad is a great way to relieve some of that lower back pain in the later months.

Pregnancy and early motherhood is tough. I think all mama’s need a little treat now and then and I hope this list gave you some ideas.
