Halloween is by far my favorite holiday and having kids just makes the season that much more exciting. I’m not a reader myself, but I’m obsessed with buying kids books because I get to see my son’s excitement for them.
My favorite thing about having lots of books for my son is bringing out new books for each holiday or season — think toy rotation but for books. I try to change out his books every couple weeks but its soo much more fun when I can stick to a theme like Halloween!
Leo is 18 months old now, so I definitely don’t have anything that is too spooky or might have scary pictures. All these books are cute, silly or just beautiful when it comes to the stories and illustrations. Some are classics and some I just came across through my Amazon shopping addiction. But all of theme are wonderful Halloween books for the 1-5 year age range.

Goodnight Goon: If your kids like Goodnight Moon, this is the fun spooky version.
The Ugly Pumpkin: Similar to the ugly duckling story, but for the Halloween season.
Ten Timid Ghosts: A Halloween favorite of my son’s for rhyming and counting down from 10.
Don’t Push the Button! Halloween Treat: A fun, interactive book that has kids playing along with the story.
Go to Sleep, Little Creep: Cute bedtime story about little monsters going to bed.
The Little Kitten: The most gorgeous illustrations to go along with a calm story about a girl frolicking with some cats in the woods.
Bonaparte Falls Apart: Not necessarily a Halloween book, but it’s about starting school and a little skeleton’s friendships.
Little Blue Truck’s Halloween: Obviously a classic for my Little Blue Truck-loving son.
Pick a Pumpkin: Perfect to prep your kids for the pumpkin patch and has beautiful illustrations.
Skeleton Hiccups: A silly book that makes my son laugh every time I pretend to hiccup.
The Little Old Lady Who Was Not Afraid of Anything: A classic that teaches you how to turn your fears into strengths.
B is for Boo: Alphabet book with really fun illustrations.
Ghost Afraid of the Dark: A book about bravery with really fun glow in the dark illustrations.
Spooky Pookie: Cute little board book about choosing a Halloween costume. My son loves all Sandra Boynton books.
The Scariest Book Ever: Perfect to read in a silly, sarcastic tone.
Room on the Broom: One of my favorite Halloween stories with fun rhymes and cadence.
